In 2018 the DAVE THE MILKMAN big band was the headliner with Voice of the people choir hot on their tails. There was also a Whitney Houston tribute act plus several performances by visiting French schoolchildren. At this time we also held a week of activities and exhibitions in Bridgwater library to promote the twinning.
2017’s twinning event was at the Bridgwater Arts Centre and was headlined by Italian act AFTER DARK. The evening featured talks and slide shows by all the twinning groups plus extra performances by Brian and Claude and Jana’s Belly Dance ensemble. After Dark also toured some other venues to pay for their trip.
In 2022 we continued our tradition of holding our Twinning event in the evening of the Quayside festival. Our star act was BSL who was a performance artiste from Italy but living on Madeira. She painted as she danced as she sang, Also performing was talented local singer Meg Boucher and brilliant Somerset instrumentalists the John Maybey duo.
Once more we did some twinning event. This time we managed to part broadcast and part do it live with the help of our friends at the Engine Room. Yvette and Brian formed a band for the evening along with Elaine, Ted and Alan. All the twin towns sent some films and it all was preserved for posterity.
We had another twinning event in 2019. This was the year just before Covid hit and we did it at the Art Centre as usual and in line with the Quayside festival. star turn was The Loreans , inevitably from Italy…..But also performing was the Dave the Milkman band. Both bands toured a bit around Somerset to raise the money to make the show viable and one especially good gig at West Bagborough Village Hall was a great hit….the band was going to come back next year..but then..Covid struck..
As everyone who isn’t currently on the Virgin Interstellar rocket to Mars would know, 2020 wasn’t the best year on the planet. However, we managed to continue our annual twinning events, but this time through the magical medium of the interweb…and we recorded it here for posterity.
For the second year running Bridgwater International organised the Bridgwater Twinning week. Here is a broad programme
